Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about
VS werks.

Everything you need to know about how the sessions work, what to expect, and who this is for.

01

What exactly is VS werks?

VS werks is a private, director-led voice performance coaching service founded by Ian James Corlett, one of animation's most decorated veterans with 30+ years directing voice talent across 500+ productions.

You submit a recording of your performance. Ian reviews it personally and sends back specific, professional director's notes, the exact same quality of direction you'd receive on a union set or in an elite conservatory. Now available to anyone, anywhere.

02

Who is this for?

VS werks is built for anyone serious about voice performance, whether you're just starting out in character voice work, preparing for auditions, or a working actor pushing into new territory.

The LAB session is ideal for a fast, focused assessment. FOUNDATIONS suits performers ready to build real range over multiple sessions. ADVANCED is for experienced actors who want production-level direction that genuinely challenges them.

03

How does the submission process work?

Once you select a session, you'll be connected through our booking platform. Record your performance, whether a scene, cold read, audition piece, or character work, and submit it through the platform.

Ian reviews your submission personally, then sends back detailed written notes. Depending on your session tier, you'll also have one or more refinement rounds where you can resubmit based on his direction.

There are no fixed session times. You submit when you're ready, and Ian works through submissions on a regular schedule.

04

Why is this different from other voice acting courses?

Most voice acting courses give you theory, group feedback, or generic instruction. VS werks gives you none of that. Instead you get real director's notes on your actual performance, from someone who has been directing professional voice actors for over 30 years.

This kind of one-on-one direction was previously locked inside SAG-AFTRA union sets and elite performing arts programs like NYU Tisch. VS werks is the first time it's been made publicly available, no union card or conservatory required.

05

Do I need professional recording equipment?

No. The direction is focused entirely on your performance, not your recording setup. A decent USB microphone in a reasonably quiet space is all you need to get started.

Ian is listening for character, intention, emotional truth, and vocal control, not whether your recording sounds studio-perfect.

06

What's the difference between the three session tiers?

LAB — A single performance submission with one round of direction and refinement. The fastest way to find out exactly what your performance needs.

FOUNDATIONS — A full coaching arc across multiple sessions, covering different character types, tonal range, and consistency. Ian tracks your growth and adjusts direction across the arc.

ADVANCED — Deep professional coaching for experienced performers. Covers signature voice development, complex multi-character range, and production-level precision. Includes priority access to Ian.

07

How long does it take to receive feedback?

Most feedback is returned within 3–5 business days. Exact turnaround is confirmed at the time of booking and can vary with current session volume. ADVANCED sessions include priority access for faster turnaround.

You'll always know what to expect before you submit.

08

Can I use VS werks if I'm completely new to voice acting?

Yes. Ian tailors every note to your current level. He's directed beginners and industry veterans alike, and the direction scales accordingly. The LAB session is the ideal starting point if you're new.

You don't need any prior training, credits, or experience. You just need to show up and perform.

09

Is this available internationally?

Yes. VS werks is entirely asynchronous. You submit and receive feedback on your own schedule, from anywhere in the world. No live calls, no time zone conflicts.

10

What if I have a question not answered here?

Head back to the main site and select a session. You'll have the opportunity to include any questions when you book. Alternatively, reach out directly through the booking platform.
